Original issues

As a result of the initial meetings of newly formed forums team this is the current open points/TODO list for forums team:


  1. big callout via forum/blog post/mail on -dev and discuss mailing lists for the search of additional forums people ( helpers, supporters, and - MOST IMPORTANTLY - php hackers )
  2. find a good timeslot for forums meetings in general
    1. -> DONE: Default = Friday 17 UTC -> 18 UTC
    2. Backup 1 = The following Tuesday 17 UTC -> 18 UTC
    3. Backup 2 = The following Saturday (hour to be decided temporarily according to participant availability)
  3. work on/finalize Forums team and Forum Rules
  4. doktor5000 is going through previous requests and posted issues in forums and forums-discuss ml and collect those on one wiki page, so they can be revisited/revalidated and prioritized. Results are posted below -> Newly added issues, should be investigated
  5. "SOLVED" mod/button - technical enhancement, long requested and urgently needed - requested/discussed in forum thread: https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=537
    1. ETA: beginning of September 2012 -> PHP hackers needed for help
  6. "organizing the chaos" - internal structure of forums team should be rediscussed, esp wrt. helpers<>moderators
  7. put up a public list in wiki/forum (to be discussed) with requirements for application as moderator
  8. prune moderators group of inactive moderators -> https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3054
    1. ETA: middle of August -> moderation logs have been reviewed, no activity from ohan, Stef74, and AshleDombos resigned -> those 3 can be removed
    2. find out if there are maybe moderators purely dedicated to moderation, but don't write posts themselves to be sure
    3. ETA: mid of August 2012 -> can be done via moderation history in forums
  9. require/strongly recommend each moderator (and maybe member of helpers group too) to subscribe to forums-discuss ml and #mageia-forums and participate in forum team meetings, or read meetbot logs and discuss meeting before/after on forums-discuss ml
    1. revisit and go through Web_Forums_concerned list of people who volunteered initially for that, too
  10. internal subforum in international forum for helpers/moderators to discuss and work together - accessible to moderators of other off. mageia forums, too

  11. revisit Archive:Forums_discussion_week_25_2011 and learn from the mistakes which were made, and try to improve on that
  12. avoid heated situations like infamous time-to-edit discussion and try to de-escalate the overall situation and escalate (transfer the issue to the next higher level of authority) much earlier to forums team and to council -> process for that?




Newly added issues, should be investigated

  1. discuss/implement rules for forum usage, discussed in https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2 and https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2054
  2. forums team should discuss or communicate how to deal with spam posts, discussed in https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1255
  3. first document and then discuss the current permissions structure in international forums
  4. Regard requests older than one year as "WONTFIX" and give an explanation if that is anything else than missing time and/or people to do it.
  5. Use Bugzilla for forum bugs and enhancement requests about the forum, after it has been confirmed in the related forum thread that that bug or request is valid. Bugzilla is designed to keep track of such reports, the forum isn't.

Will not implement

Here the requests that will not be implemented will be listed and explained, out of respect for the forum members that took the time to request them. When nothing is explained within one year it is mostly to be regarded as "will not be implemented for capacity reasons".
