Introduction

This page shows a method for installing Signal Messenger in Mageia.

Signal Messenger desktop on Mageia Linux

An unofficial port of Signal Messenger desktop is now available for Mageia Linux.

This was made available on the Mageia Linux Online web site by squid-f. It has been tried and tested in Mageia 8 and 9.

This port is not supported by signal.org. So use at own risk. It does work and is very useful. The official Signal Messenger team are already very busy supporting their official versions.

At time of writing this, the current version is 7.35.0 (as of 2024_12_07).

To install on Mageia:

Mageia 8

/bin/sudo urpmi https://repository.mageialinux-online.org/8/x86_64/media/core/signal-desktop-6.36.0-1.squidf.mlo8.x86_64.rpm
Mageia 9

/bin/sudo urpmi https://repository.mageialinux-online.org/9/x86_64/media/core/signal-desktop-7.35.0-1.squidf.mlo9.x86_64.rpm

Alternatively, the MLO URPMI repository can be added: see https://www.mageialinux-online.org/wiki/wiki.php?title=depots-supplementaires-pour-mageia-mlo-repository

This enables simpler:

/bin/sudo urpmi signal-desktop

In addition, by adding the MLO URPMI repository then "/bin/sudo urpmi --auto-update" will automatically install updates (if available).
