Proposal for change
I would like to incorporate the following concepts/tips though not as exactly expressed-- However I'd like to introduce the following as notes too so that it can help future article editors.
For using GPT drive on Non-EFI hardware.. with the Grub boot-loader (possibly you need a reserve partition space for lilo as well-- There's no harm in sparing 1 meg to find out)
- 1) Initialize the drive using the GPT partition table style
- 2) Make a bios_grub boot partition of 1 megabyte. (It can be done at any time, but for convenience, simply make it the first partition)
- 3) You're ready to install :)
Gparted Live CD tool
- Boot up cd
- When Gparted Tool loads up, Perform 1)
- Performing 2) has to be done in two stages
- Create an unformatted 1 Megabyte partition at the start of the drive, see following parenthesis note
- (Choose to round off to Mib, if you're not sure you're using a 4k-type drive, then leave 1 Mb of no-usage in front of the 1MB partition
- Two things said here--
- Leave an "empty space" on the drive of 1 Mb.
- This "empty space" is not the actual partition you want. It is the proceeding next 1 Megabyte.
- )
Commit the changes, and then enable a "bios_grub" flag to this partition, and then commit changes again (You cannot add the bios_grub flag at the same time as creating the 1 MB unformatted partition)
At this point you now can reboot to install Mageia. Do not delete, resize or move this partition entry as you need to have the bios_grub flag kept on from it.
