Synopsis:
How to use a floppy drive. - It may be crucial to be able to read files from some old floppy disk.

Computer

Problem: Floppy drives are not present on modern computers.

If you have or can borrow an old computer with Floppy drive and also USB port, you can use a Live USB with persistence enabled, to boot that computer and copy the disk content to the stick. Use Mageia Live Xfce i586 for best compatibility.

Or if you like me use an old computer with Floppy interface on the motherboard, you can connect a floppy drive, then boot Mageia.

There exist USB connected floppy drives, I have no experience whether they work with this method, but please try, and update here...

Procedure

Tested on Mageia 8 and 9 Live Xfce:

In a terminal:

$ su -
# modprobe -v floppy

- and after a second a floppy icon appear on desktop! Double click it and file manager opens.
