Resources

Current status

  • Targeted release: Mageia 3
  • Last updated: 2013-05-03
  • Percentage of completion: 99% (it's still used in installer but it's gone from any user systems)

Detailed Description

Kill sysvinit.

Why it would be good for Mageia to include it

Supporting every permutation of all software is inefficient and lowers the overall quality for no direct user gain. By focusing resources on one solution we can minimise issues and problems and it also allows GNOME and other software to depend on systemd.

Test case

Anything useful for QA and all testers to help debugging during all development cycle

Software / Packages Dependencies

List of packages to be implied

What could disrupt development of this new feature

People not being able to use systemd instead of sysvinit.

Planning

No planning needed, just drop support for the sysvinit package.

Contingency

Don't drop it!

Release Notes

This was done some time ago an there have not been any complaints. While there is likely some code kicking around that still deals with sysvinit case, it is no longer actively used and can be tidied up in the next cycle.

Documentation

There is no specific documentation to this feature. Users will automatically be using systemd now.
