  2. Some options aren't clear
  3. In many screens, it is impossible to go back

Detailed Description

First point:
We could launch a contest to propose a new look for the installer, this old one seems more pleasant:
http://yogialghofiqhi.blogspot.be/2010/08/proses-meng-instal-linux-mandriva.html

Second point:
At the Partionning step, if we choose "Use the free disk space" we don't know that it will be impossible to choose the partitions number and size, and impossible to go back when we discover this fact. The system doesn't say what it intends to do. The option "Erase and use the entire disk" is ambiguous. Is it use the entire disk for Mageia only or for all the installed OS?

Third point:
What to do when a choice turn out to be an error? it is often impossible to go back. We should either have a back button or warn the user that no cancel will be possible after the next button is hit.

Fourth point:
If for any reason we want to cancel the installation (for example to redo it with other options), it is impossible to stop and reboot properly. See Opensuse and bug #276.

Why it would be good for Mageia to include it

  • The installer is often the first contact with Mageia, it must be beyond reproach, that means powerful, easy to use, clear and beautiful.
  • When an installation fails, there is an important risk that the user give up Mageia.
