MythTV
MythTV is a full featured media centre which features a distributed architecture. Any number of computers may operate together as backends recording programmes from capture cards, or as frontends displaying content, or as both. A well developed suite of plugins allow all sorts of media to be managed.
Setting up MythTV can be quite complicated since it requires a number of applications to operate together. In fact a number of specialist Linux distributions such as MiniMyth and Mythbuntu exist so that MythTV works "out of the box".
