Warning Icon.png WORK IN PROGRESS - This page is subject to change and validation by the Mageia council

This page is intended for people with packaging experience in Mandriva who'd like to get started with packaging for Mageia. It provides guidelines for importing your packages from Mandriva and information you'll need in order to get your work into Mageia.

Mageia packager's account

People who had a Mandriva packager account in the past may be granted a full Mageia packager account.

Working with mgarepo

On Mageia, install the "mgarepo" package using urpmi. Version 1.10.0 or later is required. If you are still running Mandriva on your development system, you can use the Backports repositories to install "mgarepo" package. Alternatively, you can rebuild the "mgarepo" package from Mageia Cauldron.

Important steps to keep in mind when importing Mandriva packages

  1. Check it does not have "mandriva" / "mandrake" occurrences used as a brand/name in the software (history/changelog is ok, emails for references are ok, and copyright notices in files should be kept).
  2. Check it does not have unlicensed Mandriva stuff: images (icons), video, audio files, etc.
  3. Check the software license ( free or not, existence of license file, compare license file to headers containing license information).
