Detailed Description

Based on Gnome desktop, Orca, speech-dispatcher, brltty/BrlAPI, other packages as needed

Needs accessible MCC and Drak tools or command-line versions added to menus.

Needs a collection of accessible standard applications - office, system tools, games, audiovisual applications

A good starting-point is the Gnome Accessibility Project, also the Vinux project.

Why it would be good for Mageia to include it

Our distro currently isn't accessible by default, and a blind person needs assistance to set up what we do have. This isn't how it should be - we're an inclusive community.

Test case

  • Standard packages must be tested with keyboard, not mouse
  • Login requires speech - Orca should begin working with gdm
  • braille should be available from early in system startup if in use

Software / Packages Dependencies

TBA. See the Vinux project for ideas, also the Gnome accessibility project.

What could disrupt development of this new feature

Upstream packages not accessible, or not enough accessibility team members to do the work

Planning

See Accessibility SIG

Contingency

Accessible install can be pushed up to Mageia 4 if it isn't ready in time for Mageia 3
