This page will provide some guidelines on how to create a good wallpaper for Mageia, and maybe even get it chosen as the default wallpaper for Mageia 2!
Here you can see the current wallpaper pool where you can view images and comment on them, as well as submit your own (Please note: this is not the same pool as the contest pool, images here are not in the contest).
Guidelines
A good wallpaper that we will accept for consideration as the default background or a wallpaper packaged in the new release of Mageia must adhere to the following:
- Any and all work you submit will come under the CC By-SA license and must incorporate only imagery that is under the same (that means that you can't use images that are covered by a more restrictive license).
- Icons and text on the desktop must be easily visible.
- The image must contain the full Mageia logo (text plus cauldron).
- We are looking for something simple, so don't overdo it.
- Remember: this is a background to a workspace, which means that it shouldn't attract more attention than the workspace itself.
- The image need not be a custom-drawn image. Photographs are perfectly acceptable, while they adhere to the above.
- The wallpaper need not adhere to the official color palette, but it would be nice.
Contest
The contest has been launched! Submit your artwork to the Flickr group for a chance to win!
- Submissions will be accepted until March 1st 2012.
- Submissions must be at least 1920x1440 pixels.
- Submissions must be scalable for all possible screen resolutions: 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 etc.
A total of eleven (11) images will be chosen. One (1) image will be the default background for Mageia 2, and ten (10) will be shipped as part of the artwork package.
In order for an image to be considered for the default background it cannot be a photograph.
Photographs, and only photographs, will be chosen for the 10 additional images to be packaged.
In any case, your image must not have:
- a border
- text (other than the Mageia logo)
- recognizable people
- copyrightable material
The two best images (the one chosen as default and one more) will award their creators with a magical gift package! T-shirts, stickers and LiveCDs!
