Introduction
This document describes how to install Google Earth Pro in Mageia 8.
Download
Mageia does not include Google Earth Pro in the official repositories, so you have to download it manually.
As of now, Google Earth does not offer a 32-bit version anymore.
Visit Google and select the appropriate .rpm (Fedora/openSUSE) option for your system.
If you agree with Google's Terms of Service, save the package.
Prerequisites
If you're running a 64-bit system, you may have to install package lsb-lib before Google Earth is able to run. Go to Menu > Install & Remove Software and set the view to All packages. Select and install lsb-lib. This advice may be obsolete for Mageia 8.
Install
Go to the location you saved google-earth-stable_current_*.rpm. Right click the file and select program installer, or use urpmi from command line. If you try to launch Google Earth now, you might get a segmentation fault. To correct this, as root:
cd /opt/google/earth/pro/ ln -s libssl.so.1.0.0 libssl.so.1.1 ln -s libcrypto.so.1.0.0 libcrypto.so.1.1
Now you can access the program via Menu > Internet > Google Earth
Updates
You have to add the Google repositories manually.
Open Source Alternatives
Marble is a virtual globe and world atlas, available in the official repositories. Search for package marble.
Troubleshooting
If the program doesn't start, try starting it from the terminal by typing
google-earth-pro
The output might give you (or us) a clue about what is wrong.
Keep in mind that Google Earth Pro is a proprietary program, and Mageia developers are not able to modify or fix it in any way.
