Imagine a factory with an assembly line building products made from thousands of separate parts which all have to work together in harmony. The products are used by the public, but nobody checks that what is being produced is of suitable quality for what they are designed to do. Nobody checks to see whether the items being produced work at all or have important bits missing or whether one part of them doesn't work well with another part.

It doesn't take much imagination to see what is wrong with that picture. It would be chaos. There would be an untold number of complaints and returns. People would not trust the produce of that factory and would not bother to use their products, no matter how shiny and good looking they were.

Trust in a factory to produce good quality products is an important part of a person deciding to use them and perhaps then even taking part in helping the factory to make them even better.

This, albeit unlikely, scenario is the reason why QA is important. If that factory had invested some time and effort into ensuring the products leaving their factory were of good quality and able to perform reliably the task for which they were designed then it is far more likely that people interested in using their products would have a level of trust that the products of interest are not going to let them down. The relationship of those people with the factory would be untarnished and their experience whilst using the products would be good.

Mageia aims to produce a high quality product. We want our users to have trust in us to only output high quality products. They need to know that when they decide to install and use Mageia that it will work. They need to know and trust that, when they click on the icon to update their Mageia installation, those updates won't leave them in difficulty. We want them to have a great experience using Mageia. We want to earn and be deserving of their trust.

Mageia is about community and community thrives on trust. No part of the community, be it our users or any part of the team that makes Mageia, wants to feel they cannot put their trust in what is being produced. We all use it, we all love it, we all want to make it better. We hope that others, perhaps discovering Mageia for the first time, will feel that way too and want to become part of the teams that make Mageia what it is and what it will become.

To that end we have Mageia QA.
