Here is a list of commonly used abbreviation used in mailing list posts, IRC and, to a lesser extent, forums. Normally they are used capitalized. Abbreviations listed in lower case are more commonly used in IRC.

  • AFAICS - as far as i can see
  • AFAICT - as far as i can tell
  • AFAIK - as far as i know
  • afk - away from keyboard
  • asap - as soon as possible
  • atm - at the moment
  • bbl - I'll be back later
  • brb - I'll be right back
  • BTW - by the way
  • FYI - for your interest
  • FWIW - for what it's worth
  • hth - i hope that helps
  • IIRC - if i remember correctly
  • IIUC - if i understood correctly
  • IINM - if i'm not mistaken
  • IMHO - in my humble opinion
  • IOW - in other words
