Detailed Description

Why it would be good for Mageia to include it

mdadm is still being maintained and is the recognized tool for such fake raid systems. While currently (ie. Mageia 5) has dmraid working correctly, previous versions haven't. dmraid is only being used by creating a work-around, as mdadm hasn't been able to be configured properly in the installer.

Several bug reports exist regarding this issue throughout the last few releases.

Test case

Raid arrays created through the onboard bios should be detected during install and activated using mdadm.

I have a physical box with two such arrays, using intel ICH10R and is suitable for testing.

Software / Packages Dependencies

mdadm > version 3.2 (see 3.2 release announcement [1]) version 3.3.2 is currently in Mageia5 repos.

What could disrupt development of this new feature

Planning

I'm an amatuer: Will help as much as possible.

Contingency

It appears that dmraid works fine as a backup, and editing /lib/systemd/fedora-storage-init has allowed dmraid to operate the intel fake raid systems.

Release Notes

Seems we should consider 3.3.4 [2]
