Detailed Description
The Live CD installer feels awkward and stale. The first several prompts when booting to the live CD, for example, include an "advanced" tab that could be moved/removed to make the installer a little more coherent. With those prompts, it'd also be nice to have a small progress indicator (i.e. a "Step 1 of 4" notice).
In the post-install setup screen, there are several more places where there are odd "advanced" tabs.
In the post-install setup screen, also, there's a place to select your user icon, but the default choices are a bit bland or ugly. I'm no artist, so I can't do the work here, but what about finding/creating a nice, clean user icon set with a variety of themes (animal, flowers, scenic, sports, music, etc)?
And, generally, the text can all use a bit of refreshing, and the tools that still have their historical names could be forked/renamed.
Example: Diskdrake -> Mageia Disk Utility (renaming the application)
Example: "The Diskdrake partitioning tool will now partition your hard drive." -> "The Magiea Disk Utility is starting. We'll set up your hard drive now." (rewriting the text)
Example: rpmdrake -> Mageia Software Manager (renaming the application)
Why it would be good for Mageia to include it
Because I would like to hand these cds to friends and family and not worry that they'll see a bunch of unnecessary oddments that would throw them off. And because a few small adjustments can make a big difference, in terms of the thing feeling rough around the edges vs polished.
Test case
At every stage of the installer's process, the QA/review person ought to be able to ask: does this screen tell me everything I need to know, or that it would be nice to know? Does this screen provide enough useful information to make decisions on things I don't already know about? Does this need to be here, or is it here for historical/traditional reasons?
Software / Packages Dependencies
Unknown
What could disrupt development of this new feature
Disagreements about what kinds of prompts/options are necessary for the installer. Lack of time/interest in cleaning up the installer.

Contingency
What's there works. If nothing changes, it's acceptable. (Just could be better.)
